Health education has been proposed as one of the strongest aspirations to fight for equity and seek to reach a healthy population with autonomy and the ability to make choices that are right for their own health. Objective: To conduct a bibliographical review to analyses the scientific evidence on the role of nursing staff in Health Education. Methodology: A bibliographical review of the articles published in the databases Google Scholar, Nursing 21, Scielo, Virtual Health Library, CUIDATGE was carried out. The bibliographic search was based on obtaining documentation that provided information of the nursing performance in the area of health education, for this was divided the search in two blocks: function of nursing and education for the health. Results: We worked with a total of 31 documents from which the information presented was obtained, which develops the theme in nursing functions, the establishment of what is education for health and its objectives. Likewise, what is the area of nursing intervention, in education for health and the purpose of it. Conclusions: Nursing professionals have the responsibility to educate both patients and families, in order to obtain an optimal state of health and achieve the empowerment of the population.
