However, there may be health problems that affect communication, hampering the establishment of satisfactory interpersonal relationships. One such example is Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), which may have effects that generate changes in the communication skills of the person, their self-esteem and interpersonal relationships. For nursing, this problem is a challenge, requiring new strategies for assessment and intervention that allow for early rehabilitation. The study of an actual clinical case was conducted with the objective of valuing the importance of interdisciplinary work and developing new strategies to cope with the disruption of communication of a patient with TBI. The establishment of a new set of verbal and nonverbal communication strategies allowed for assessment of real needs, and needs felt by the patient.
