The mini-CEX (mini clinical evaluation exercise) is an instrument for evaluating professional performance through direct observation of the resident while participating in an encounter with a patient, the assessment of a series of clinical skills and abilities with subsequent constructive feedback in their scope of work. It focuses on six competencies that the resident must demonstrate during the patient encounter and requires the faculty member to document that performance. It is easy to apply by teachers because it integrates well into the day-to-day routine in different clinical scenarios. The estimated time of this interaction should not exceed 20 minutes and should be repeated at least 8 times a year with each resident by different teachers in case of summative decisions. It is vitally important to agree on its implementation as a strategic initiative from the management of the health institution, so that teachers define in advance what competencies will be evaluated and what are the minimum performance standards that residents must achieve.
