Resonances: Music Research Magazine

The Resonances Magazine It was founded in 1997 and, since then, it has been published every six months under the wing of the Institute of Music of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (IMUC).

Since its inception, and without interruption, this magazine has published articles by national and foreign specialists on various topics related mainly to the music of Latin America, the Caribbean and the Iberian Peninsula. To these are added, every two years, the works recognized with the "Samuel Claro Valdés" Latin American Musicology Award, awarded by the IMUC since 1998 and which currently represents one of the main instances for the promotion of the discipline in our continent, promoting the publication of landmark research in the field of Latin American musicology and ethnomusicology, carried out by renowned specialists from various countries.

In its first stage, until 2012, the magazine had the participation of professors Alejandro Guarello as director and Carmen Peña as editor. In addition to publishing research articles, during this period, through its sections "Reflections", "Interviews", "Testimonies", "Tributes" and "special" texts, Resonancias made known different aspects of musical thought in other disciplinary fields. such as composition and interpretation. In his final section of "Comments" he also presented critical reviews of records, books and even academic events related to music.

Starting in 2013, and based on the achievements and consolidation achieved in the previous stage, Resonancias has begun a new phase whose main objectives are to strengthen its profile as a music research magazine and increase its visibility in the media. The team in charge of carrying out this task was made up during said year by Alejandro Vera as director, Christian Spencer as editor and an Editorial Committee made up of prominent researchers from Chile and abroad. As of 2014, the position of editor has been assumed by Leonora López.

As of number 32, the number of research articles was increased from two to six and its graphic aspect was modified, modernizing the cover and layout. Likewise, the old names of the sections ("Testimonials", "Comments" and "Studies") have been modified in order to adapt them to the more frequent use of the magazines of the area, thus remaining as "Documents", "Reviews" and " Articles". As of issue 34, meanwhile, the efforts of the editorial team have focused on making all the necessary improvements to comply with international academic publishing standards, thus ensuring the rigor of its processes and the effectiveness of its communications.
