Possibilities and limits for social inclusion: profiles and paths of settlement of the Dominican population in Chile
Summary
This article presents a characterization of the situation of the Dominican immigrant population in Chile, a group that had not been the focus of interest in particular studies and that is invisible within other research that characterizes the immigrant population in general. This group in Chile has increased significantly in recent years; according to information from the Department of Immigration and Migration, the arrival of Dominican people has tripled in recent years (DEM, 2016). The results are based on a mixed, quantitative study developed in four urban centers in the country (Santiago, Iquique, Antofagasta and Punta Arenas). Among the quantitative results found, the feminization of this group stands out, the high concentration in a working age group, most of whom declare themselves as single with children in their country of origin, although only one 20% lives with their children in Chile.
