Summary
The main objective of this study was to identify a set of behaviors of effective te<;i.chers. Effective teachers were defined as those whose studénts achieved highly in a .national evaluation system (SIMCE). One of the important conclusions of this research was th.at student achievement ¡s not only influenced by teacher's instructional · classroom management, but a/so by the teacher's expectancies, believes, and feelings. In this regard,it's noteworthy that the evaluation that teachers do of interna! and externa! conditions of the school strorigly affect the variability of student's outcome. The study also stresses the relevan.ce of student's self-concept as an indicator of quality of teaching. It ."'.ªs. observed that hoth teacher's behavior asan instructional agent, and personal characteristics directly affect the concept that children have of themselves as students. It was concluded that t~acher's behavior is an appropiate .area to implement interventions aimed at improving ilie quality of edúcation.
