Summary

The main purpose of this article is to show the educational thinking of Paulo Freire (1921-1997), Brazilian educator who lived in Chile between 1964 and 1971. During this period, he collaborated with governmental institutions in literacy programs for adult and rural population. One characteristic of his approach was to promote dialogue between the teacher and the student to make this process a pedagogical strategy to raise awareness of the subject.
