Summary
This work gives an account of some of the journalistic strategies applied by different editors of 'Valdivia's Deutsche Zeitung', a newspaper published in the south of Chile, in German, between 1886 and 1912. The reasons that led to the success or failure of these strategies considering the dynamic information interests of its audience and the influence exerted by the particular social, economic and political environment that developed in Valdivia during the second half of the 19th century and the first decade of the 20th. It is concluded that the closure of the newspaper, in 1912, was fundamentally due to the inability of its last editors to capture the true interests of the Chilean-German public of that city.
