The Nurses of the Clinical Hospital of the Catholic University of Chile, design a method of categorizing patients, inserted in the Continuous Quality Improvement Program, based on D. Orem's Conceptual Model of Self-Care. The designed categorization method identifies the sick client of the Clinical Hospital according to their level of dependency and risk. The method allows an objective and structured evaluation of the care needs of sick clients, evaluates the workloads of nursing staff, optimizes the distribution of resources of each care service, according to the profile of the client served and facilitates the standardization of plans. of care for each category of clients.
