Summary
Introduction: the social transition in girls (os, es) and adolescents with gender incongruity, is a non-medical intervention, completely reversible, that generates benefits in mental health, but that has been little studied. The objective is to carry out a bibliographical review in this regard and from there derive recommendations to the professionals who intervene in the support of these (os, es) girls (os, es), adolescents and their families. Methods: the present work corresponds to a review between the years 2010 - 2021 in English and Spanish-speaking scientific journals indexed in PUBMED, SciELO and Google Scholar. Results: the trajectory in the development of gender incongruity is described. In prepubescent (os, es) the interest is focused on the persistence and desistence of gender incongruity and the different trajectories. Social transition and persistence can manifest differentially for trans girls and boys. Carrying out a social transition in girls (os, es) who request it favors mental health. The family and the community live their own transitions. In Chile, the conditions have been given in health, education and at the legislative level to support the affirmation of the gender of girls (os, es) and adolescents, but there is a lack of education regarding the social transition in childhood and adolescence.
Conclusions: given the benefits that social transition generates in transgender girls and adolescents, professionals need to be educated and intervene appropriately.
