Summary
Nurses are the largest group of health professionals in Chile. In 2021, the Superintendency of Health reported 68,977 registered nurses, with a ratio of 3.5 professionals per 1,000 inhabitants (Zanga, 2022). The beginnings of the university training of nurses go back to 1929 when the School of Nursing of the University of Chile received the first group of students. Since then, public and private institutions have trained many generations of professional nurses at an accelerated pace. Currently there are more than thirty Nursing careers in the country.
