The Pincheira: A Parabole of the Chilean Political Transition

Resumen

While in Chile television broadcasting is celebrating its 50th anniversary, Latin America celebrates half a century of its first soap opera (telenovela) broadcast. This article analyses Los Pincheira, one of the most viewed telenovelas in Chilean television, and its significant and symbolic features. In this context we discover that certain atributes and time shifts of this costume production, allows determining the existence of a massive parabole of the political transition in Chile.
