Resumen
From 1843, Catholic Church became present in Chilean public opinion trough its magazine La Revista Católica. However, as the attacks from the liberal movements became more harsh and strident, in 1874 the Chilean clergy decided to fund its own newspaper, the Estandarte Católico. Through its new media, the Catholic Church got involved in a journalistic battle, exposing its opinions against the growing secularization of Chilean society. This process ended up with the Chilean Civil War and the closing of the Estandarte Católico.
