Resumen
This article intends to describe and analize Manuel Montt´s thinking and actions in the educational field. This description is situated in a historical period where basic institutions were established to give birth to the educational system in Chile. It draws attention to Manuel Montt´s capacity to link reflection and action in the educational arena, as his capacity to respond to the challenges of the context, anticipating problems and solutions with applicability even today. The article also stresses his ability to coordinate and promote the work of other contemporary educators. Through this essay it is possible to notice the relation between his condition as a Stateman and Educator.
